Still inspired by the Pantone color of the month! A relaxed pillow design, with tons of texture, and tonal periwinkle mixed with warm neutrals for interest and grounding.
Here is the Color of the Week for the first week of April! It was definitely a selfish choice for me to choose neutrals as the theme for April. I just love the calm and relaxing effect that an all neutral palette brings to a room, and that focus it brings to textures and layering.
Gray has been a pretty steady fixture of the interior design world now for a while, so you may have a few gray rooms in your own house. Though the trends are turning to warmer grays and taupes, one of the classiest color combinations out there is gray and camel. Fortunately, bringing camel into your gray room not only is an easy addition, but pushes your “chic” factor to a whole other level.
Contrast is really the most striking element in interior design. Though most people think about black and white in this situation, my favorite contrast is between other neutrals – specifically, cool and warm. The warm tones of camel, and the cool grays offer a perfect contrast to make a space feel slick and put together.
Somewhere between pouring over Tintin comics and that one episode of Trading Spaces where Genevieve Gorder hung a bed from the ceiling, my childhood was filled with books of Morocco and Moroccan architecture (that tile! Those arches!). I still absolutely love the detail, the calming white walls, and how everything goes just so perfectly together.
When I was younger, I was so certain that when I grew up, I would not only spend a lot of my time in the amazing vacation homes there, but my home would reflect my love for Morocco – in its full glory. Though the full on color and glitter I was imagining in my childhood mind is certainly not how I picture my home these days, as I dream about my future home, I would love to bring some large scale Moroccan tile, airy drapery fabrics, and an incredible rug, along with some other accents, into my home.
These days, Moroccan details are found just about everywhere in interior design. Vintage Moroccan rugs, leatherworking, and wedding blankets can be seen on just about every trendy blog and instagram – and I am loving it! No matter what Moroccan details you choose to include in your home, it definitely brings a breath of fresh air, and a new global perspective.
There are definitely some simple things that you can do to add the casual ease of the trendy Moroccan interior design style.
First, throw a moroccan pouf in a corner, in front of a sofa, or slide two under a console table on your wall. Grab this one from Bohemia to bring genuine moroccan feel to your home.
Replace your coffee table with a classy moroccan tray one. This one from Pier 1 jump starts your moroccan decor, and brings amazing detail and wood tone to your space.
Finally, an easy thing to do is use a moroccan wedding blanket – or Handira – as a heavy blanket across your couch or bringing amazing texture to your bed. World Market has this one which you can use as a rug, or a heavy throw.
Next: There are two companies you should go to first for other Moroccan decor – pillows, bedding, and other housewares – to fill in the spaces in your home.
First: Bohemia Design has an amazing collection of blankets and Handira’s, and also, the softest Moroccan slippers you will ever slip on your feet. I go here first if I am looking for a Hammam towel (Turkish bath towel), and their pompom baskets are also adorable.
Second: Tigmi Trading is the place you go for amazing Moroccan rugs and floor pillows. Their rugs, both in neutrals and bright colors, have amazing, heavy texture, and become a perfect feature in your room.
It doesn’t take much to include the light, airy, and romantic atmosphere of Morocco in your home! A few details can go a long way to add the emotion of the cool breeze, raw woods, and amazing shapes in Moroccan architecture and design.
Maybe one day I will get to Morocco – be able to walk the city streets, see the markets, and feel the ocean breeze – but for now, I love to see it trending, and include a little of it in my own home.
In honor of my post where I practically obsess over the new spring outdoor furniture collections (read that here!), this weeks theme is bringing together some of the outdoor pillows I found on my online shopping spree. I love that being outdoors in the morning is such a peaceful and fresh experience, so I wanted to capture that in the colors and soft patterns.
Outdoor Pillows – Serenity
I love the cool blues and how so much white makes this set feel like a breath of fresh air. I included a little bit of texture, but mostly kept to prints, so overall the set feels smooth and complete. A little bit of text captures the feeling of serenity, with just the right size and font to keep it aligned with the other pillows, and since it is embroidered, it adds just a little bit of shine.
It is so amazing to spend time outside – and making it a little more comfortable and fabulous is definitely worth the effort! Whether it is as simple as rolling up a rug or bringing a throw to lay on the grass (or cement, depending on where you live), to cuddling up on an outdoor sectional with an incredible view, spending time in the fresh air as soon as you wake up starts your day off right, and jump starts your day with a perfect sense of serenity!

This segment will be called Pillows of the Week. I will be putting collections of pillows together, using trends or pillows that I have seen over and over that my clients love! Sometimes it is hard to visualize how decorative pillows should be put together, so this should help us all to see how things fit.
This weeks theme is:
Global Texture – Black
These pillows all have physical woven texture – which add to the depth, and allow them to layer without feeling overwhelming. I love that interior design is such a tactile discipline, so adding heavily woven textiles in a room make it feel deep and genuine. I also love the depth that black adds to a space, contrasting light and bright color in a room, which helps it to feel grounded and also adds a little sophistication. The straw color always reminds me of jute and other natural fibers
Global prints are definitely a trend right now, but I personally like smaller pattern and finer textures. Combined with these tribal woven textures allows anyone to create a collection of pillows that look amazing together.
